Antoine Verlay and Florence Chassagne return for two new investigations that will plunge them into the world of two immense artists: Cézanne and David. From the ochre landscapes of Aix-en-Provence and Mont Sainte-Victoire, to the wax figures illustrating the tumultuous French Revolution at the Musée Grévin, and including the famous galleries of the Louvre, our duo will have to be ingenious to understand the intimate connection between the murderers they are pursuing and these masterpieces of painting. Our two investigators will also have to unravel the true nature of their feelings for one another because, while the word "friendship" can be used loosely, desire does not lie.

In her Paris studio, an art teacher and great admirer of Paul Cézanne is murdered just as her husband, a painter, calls her from Aix-en-Provence, believing he has finally found the right vantage point to paint Mont Sainte-Victoire, following in the footsteps of his master. Captain Antoine Verlay and historian Florence Chassagne quickly make the connection between this unusual murder and the work of the famous Provençal artist.
